4 Daily Habits To Boost Creativity
First of all, I don’t really believe in a creative “type”. I believe that everyone is born with creativity, and the best part about it is that you can never run out. The more creativity you use, the more you have. It’s all about learning to use the creativity you were born with.
So how can you increase your access to your innate creativity? How can you learn to turn it off and on like a water faucet?
Here are 4 of my favorite tips to enhance the creativity that you already have!
1 Work Out
Not only does working out wake you up, it increases blood-flow to the brain which sharpens thinking and creativity. Also, exercise has a way of clearing your mind. When all the noise and worries get out of the way, ideas have room to come through!
2-Enjoy the silence
Inspiration is always waiting for us to pay attention long enough for a big, juicy idea to take root. Give it space. Try meditation, or just take a few minutes to breath in silence. I like to take a few minutes to sit and listen while I’m on a walk or a hike, or lay on the floor and look at the blank ceiling (it takes away the visual noise as well!)
Your head might be full of ideas, but you might not be in the habit of using them! Sometimes, ideas float around our minds like amorphous blobs, but brainstorming gives us a chance to articulate them and give them a little more form. It pulls the idea out of our heads and onto paper (or your computer screen) where you can get a better look at it. So try taking 5 minutes every day to just do a brain dump, on paper or on the computer. See what’s floating around your little noggin!
I don’t know about you, but when I don’t get my required 8 hrs, I’m useless. In every way. Our brains don’t work properly without a good recharge each night, and if we’re exhausted, all of our energy goes to just getting through the day, which leaves us nothing for creativity.
Please, do what you need to do to get sleep. I understand that a lot of people are in a season of life when sleep is difficult to come by (like if you have a new baby), but if you have an opportunity to grab some extra sleep, take it! Sleep with earplugs or a mask if it helps you, and make sure your room is cool and dark.
The bottom line is that when are bodies and minds are healthy, we can settle into our natural state of creativity because there’s nothing inhibiting it. Give these tips a try!
